Describing the enormity of seeing the terracotta warriors for the first time is challenging. This is a definite bucket list attraction for anybody. Even though we read up about it in detail before we visited this amazing mausoleum, nothing prepared us of actualy seeing this ancient army in person.

Suzhou And Tongli - Watertowns Of China
Anxious to explore the beautiful watertowns of China, also known as The Venice of the Orient, we left the train station in Suzhou to find our hotel. Following our unreliable GPS we turned left at the exit and after walking what seemed like forever and pushing through a mob of festival goers, we at last found our quaint hotel in the middle of the old town of Suzhou. Mind you, when we got to the hotel entrance and looked up the street, we could see the train station, a mere 300m away!

Majestic Maijishan Grottoes, Gansu Province - China
Fuelled on by our curiosity of the amazing, rock carved, architectural wonder that is the Maijishan caves, we set off on the somewhat challenging route to get there. Our adventure started at Lanzhou train station where we got off our overnight train. We left the bulk of our luggage at the ‘Left Luggage’ office at the train station, then boarded the bullet train from Lanzhou to Tianshui train station, the closest train station to the caves, about one hour and twenty minutes ride.

Imagine an oasis area with a desert, a singing sand dunes phenomenon, a serene crescent lake, Buddhist caves with amazing art and very lively night markets all in the same vicinity, then it is most probable that you found Dunhuang, in the Northwestern Gansu province of China. We arrived by overnight train in the city of Dunhuang and got dropped off by taxi at our delightful hotel in a cultural village in the middle of a desert area. From there we had mind blowing experiences.
Tianmen Mountain, Zhangjiajie - China
Tianmen Mountain, Zhangjiajie - China
Prepare to be amazed with jaw-dropping experiences when visiting Zhangjiajie in the Northwest of Hunan province in China. We arrived at Hehua airport and took the train to the centre of the city. With the help of our GPS we quickly found our hotel. Not so quickly we booked in with the non-English speaking receptionist. With the ‘dubious’ help of our translator (not always correct communication by the sometimes shocked looks we got and vigorous shaking of the head), we at last got our room key.
